The Camulod Chronicles,

The Camulod Chronicles presents a historical reconstruction of the Arthurian legend, beginning in the final decades of Roman Britain and continuing through the rise and fall of Arthur’s kingdom. Former Roman officers establish the colony of Camulod to preserve law, learning and military order; their descendants include Merlyn Britannicus, Uther Pendragon, Arthur and the warrior later remembered as Lancelot.

Across nine novels, the series explains familiar elements of the legend through the conditions of fifth-century Britain. Excalibur is the achievement of a master smith, the Round Table develops from communal government, and Merlyn’s supposed sorcery grows from knowledge and strategy. The result is a multigenerational saga of migration, warfare, belief and state-building after the withdrawal of Roman authority.
