Thalia, Texas and Duane Moore

The Thalia novels follow several generations of characters in a fictional north Texas town as ranching, oil wealth and small-town institutions decline or change. Horseman, Pass By, Leaving Cheyenne and The Last Picture Show establish a community shaped by frustrated ambition, damaged families and limited opportunities.

The Last Picture Show also begins the Duane Moore sequence, continued in Texasville, Duane’s Depressed, When the Light Goes and Rhino Ranch. Together, the seven books follow Duane and the people around him from youth to old age, treating Thalia as a changing social world rather than a conventional historical setting.
