Margaret Kerr Trilogy

The Margaret Kerr trilogy follows a Scottish merchant's wife searching for truth and personal independence during the opening year of the Wars of Scottish Independence. In 1297 Margaret travels through occupied Edinburgh and a country divided among supporters of John Balliol, Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and Edward I, while the disappearance of her husband exposes how little she understands his political commitments.

Margaret's investigations move from family betrayal and murder to espionage surrounding Stirling Castle. Her knowledge of trade, kinship and household affairs becomes as important as military intelligence, and the trilogy presents the rebellion through civilians forced to negotiate English occupation, rival Scottish factions and the danger of trusting people whose private loyalties may differ from their public allegiance.
