Legion XXII

The Legion XXII series follows Titus Cervianus, a civilian surgeon transformed into a capsarius and soldier with Legio XXII Deiotariana in Roman Egypt. His medical skill gives the campaigns a distinctive viewpoint, moving between the wounded body, the tensions inside the legion and the strategic demands of Augustus’s new regime.

Set during conflict with Kush, the novels depict desert marching, frontier intelligence, religious and political unrest, and the difficulty of imposing Roman authority beyond the Nile valley. Cervianus must decide how far loyalty to his comrades can coexist with scepticism about the conquest they are ordered to enforce.
