Tusun Pasha

1794–1816

Tusun Pasha was a son of Muhammad Ali of Egypt and a commander in the Egyptian campaign in Arabia. He led forces sent to recover the Hejaz and the holy cities during the Ottoman–Saudi War.

Blood and Sand makes Tusun a principal commander and close companion of Thomas Keith during the Arabian campaign. Tusun’s command and campaign are historical; private conversations and the detailed friendship are novelistic reconstruction.
