Historical person
Teneu
Teneu, also known as Thaney or Enoch, is a legendary early Scottish saint and the mother of Saint Mungo. Medieval tradition presents her as a princess who survived an attempted execution after becoming pregnant outside marriage.
Her story is hagiographical rather than securely historical, but it became part of the sacred origin narrative of Glasgow and the Lothians. She was venerated as a saint and associated with sites in both regions.
