Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga and trained as an artist in Spain before settling for long periods in Paris. With Georges Braque he became one of the principal developers of Cubism, and his work ranged across painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics and theatre design.

Picasso’s career spanned more than seven decades and included the Blue and Rose periods, Cubist experiments and politically charged works such as Guernica. His fame made him a defining figure of the modern art world during his lifetime, and historical fiction frequently uses encounters with him to measure the ambitions and insecurities of invented artists.
