Nestor

Nestor was the aged king of Pylos and counsellor among the Greek commanders at Troy. In Homeric epic he is valued for experience, memory and persuasive speech, offering advice drawn from an earlier generation of warfare.

In Hilary Green’s The Last Hero, Two generations after the heroes return from Troy, Prince Alkmaion of Pylos lives beneath the reputation of his ancestor Nestor and fears he cannot equal the courage celebrated in palace songs. David Gemmel’s Troy: Shield of Thunder places Nestor within a narrative shaped by court politics and dynastic power, political ambition and government, and exploration, travel and cultural encounter. Other novels featuring Nestor include David Gemmel’s Troy: Fall of Kings.
