Martín Cortés

1520–1569

Martín Cortés, often called el Mestizo, was the son of Hernán Cortés and Malinche and one of the best-known children born from the early Spanish conquest of Mexico. He was acknowledged by his father, educated within the colonial elite and served in Spain and New Spain, occupying an uneasy position between Indigenous and Spanish worlds.
