Martin Bormann

Martin Bormann was a senior Nazi Party official who became head of the Party Chancellery and one of Adolf Hitler’s most powerful subordinates. His position gave him extensive influence over appointments, party administration and access to Hitler during the later years of the Third Reich.

Bormann disappeared during the collapse of Berlin in May 1945 and was later confirmed to have died during an attempted escape from the city. Alex Gerlis uses him under his historical identity in End of Spies, where the fictional investigation turns towards rumours that Bormann may have survived. The historical office and disappearance are documented; the novel’s pursuit and encounters are imaginative reconstruction.
