Henry III of England

Henry III ruled England from 1216 to 1272, one of the longest reigns of the medieval English monarchy. His disputes with the barons, financial pressures and reliance on foreign favourites led to reform movements and the rebellion of Simon de Montfort.

In Griff Hosker’s King in Waiting, Simon de Montfort defeats and captures King Henry III of England at the Battle of Lewes to become de facto ruler of the country. In Sharon Kay Penman’s Here Be Dragons, Wales and England, late twelfth to early thirteenth century.
