Cicero

Cicero was a Roman orator, lawyer, philosopher and statesman of the late Republic. His speeches and letters provide one of the richest surviving accounts of Republican politics, especially during the Catilinarian crisis, Caesar’s rise and the civil wars.

In Peter Tonkin’s Cicero Dies!, Cicero dominates the Senate, while Octavian delays action after the deaths of both consuls create an opportunity to demand supreme office. In Steven Saylor’s Roman Blood, the young advocate Cicero asks Gordianus to investigate the prosecution of Sextus Roscius, an Umbrian landowner accused of murdering his father.
