Apepi

c. 17th century BCE–1541 BCE

Apepi was a Hyksos ruler of the Fifteenth Dynasty during Egypt’s Second Intermediate Period. He ruled from Avaris while Theban kings in the south moved toward open war, a struggle that eventually led to the expulsion of the Hyksos by Ahmose I.

In Pauline Gedge’s The Hippopotamus Marsh, the Theban ruler Seqenenre Tao governs southern Egypt while King Apepi and the Hyksos control the north. In Pauline Gedge’s The Oasis, after Seqenenre Tao’s death, Kamose inherits both the Theban throne and the war against King Apepi.
