The Texas War

The Texas War presents the surviving account of José Juan Sánchez Navarro, a Mexican soldier who participated in the campaign against the Texan rebels and witnessed the fighting associated with the Alamo. Written from within the Mexican army, the testimony records marches, commands, shortages, troop movements and the confusion of combat rather than retelling the revolution solely through the later legends of the defenders.

Manolo Palomares transcribed and edited the historical document for modern publication; Sánchez Navarro remains the original author and witness. The account follows Mexican operations around Béxar and the assault on the Alamo while providing a contrasting perspective on Antonio López de Santa Anna, William B.
