England, 1459–1485. Richard of Gloucester grows to adulthood during the Wars of the Roses as his brother Edward IV wins the crown for the House of York. The family’s position is repeatedly threatened by exile, rebellion, the ambitions of Warwick the Kingmaker and the rivalry of their brother George, Duke of Clarence.

After Edward’s death, Richard becomes protector for his young nephew and then takes the throne as Richard III amid disputed claims about legitimacy and the princes in the Tower. His marriage to Anne Neville, the death of his son and the rise of Henry Tudor lead to Bosworth, where the Yorkist reign and Richard’s life end.
