In 1939 Alex Kovacs is living in neutral Zurich after the fall of Austria and Czechoslovakia. His work in banking places him among diplomats, financial intermediaries and rival intelligence services, all attempting to determine when Hitler will turn west and how Germany will finance the campaign.
Alex and his contacts believe they have identified the route and timing of the coming attack, but officials who ignored earlier warnings remain unwilling to act. He must move information through a city crowded with spies while protecting the private life he has started to rebuild and deciding which government, if any, can be trusted with the truth.
