Alexanor has left soldiering to serve as a healer at the sanctuary of Epidaurus, hoping to put the bloodshed he has witnessed behind him. Greece offers no true refuge: Macedon, Sparta, Egypt and Rome use its cities and leagues as ground for proxy wars, while farmers are pressed into armies or sold into slavery.
