The Jerusalem Diamond

New York and Israel in the late twentieth century. Harry Hopeman, heir to generations of Jewish diamond cutters and dealers, is asked to help recover a celebrated yellow stone known as the Jerusalem Diamond. The jewel is believed to have passed through Jewish history from the age of King Solomon, and its disputed ownership draws Harry into a world of collectors, religious claims, archaeological speculation and international intrigue.

In Israel, Harry works with Tamar Strauss, a Yemenite Israeli agent and war widow whose life challenges his assumptions about identity and belonging. As the search follows the diamond’s possible path across centuries, Harry is forced to reconsider his strained marriage, his family inheritance and his relationship to Israel. The novel combines a modern suspense story with episodes from ancient Jewish history, using the gemstone as a link between commerce, faith, memory and competing ideas of rightful possession.
