The Forgotten Few

by Adam Zamoyski

4.3(461)

The Forgotten Few tells the story of the Polish airmen and support personnel who reached Britain after the defeats of Poland and France and continued the war as part of the Allied air effort. More than 150 Polish pilots fought during the decisive phase of the Battle of Britain, and a substantial Polish Air Force subsequently developed alongside the RAF with fighter, bomber and specialist squadrons.

Zamoyski combines operational history with the social experience of Polish servicemen in Britain and the political tragedy that followed Allied victory, when many could not safely return to a Soviet-dominated Poland. The book is not intended as a technical squadron-by-squadron history but as a nonfiction account of the people, their service and their post-war fate.
