Spanish Galleon

A drunken seaman’s tale sends the immense and enterprising Roddy Roy MacGregor from Glasgow to the remote Hebridean island of Inishewen. Somewhere offshore lies a Spanish galleon and, according to rumour, a fortune in treasure. Roddy quickly discovers that he is not the only man interested in the wreck: an English salvage party has official backing, while islanders believe that anything recovered from their waters should belong to them.

With the help of Clan MacAimish—and particularly the chief’s resourceful daughter—Roddy becomes involved in a covert attempt to reach the treasure before the authorised expedition. Equipment must be concealed, local rivalries managed and every movement kept from officials who would treat the enterprise as theft. His patriotic claim that the gold should serve Scotland does not make the scheme legal, and greed threatens to divide allies as effectively as outside opposition. Unlike Tranter’s dynastic novels, this is a modern adventure built around salvage, romance and comic audacity, with the Hebridean landscape turning a treasure hunt into a contest between outsiders, island loyalties and the law.
