As the Battle of the Bulge begins to turn against Germany, Hitler launches Operation Nordwind against weakened Allied positions in Alsace. Caje Cole and his squad are rushed into the Vosges Mountains, where villages and narrow roads are threatened by armour and experienced Wehrmacht troops.
Among the attackers is a German sniper known as the Butcher, an opponent Cole has encountered before. The American squad must defend civilians and hold the mountain approach while Cole hunts a marksman who uses the confusion of the offensive to pursue personal vengeance. Justice and battlefield necessity become difficult to separate.
