SAS Forged in Hell

The SAS leaves the North African desert for the invasion of Sicily and the campaign up the Italian peninsula. Paddy Mayne’s force must adapt from small airfield raids to assaults involving coastal landings, fortified positions and cooperation with larger Allied formations.

Lewis follows Mayne and his men through operations in Sicily and Italy, where terrain and enemy defence demand new tactics without reducing the violence expected of the unit. The second volume of the trilogy shows how the SAS survived institutional expansion while casualties and repeated combat hardened the bonds and rivalries established in the desert.
