Prince of Spies
In 1942 detective Richard Prince is drawn into British intelligence after a German agent is discovered on the Lincolnshire coast. His first major assignment sends him into occupied Denmark, where rumours suggest that Germany is developing a weapon capable of altering the course of the war. Copenhagen becomes the centre of a dangerous contest involving the Gestapo, Danish contacts and competing intelligence priorities.
Prince is fictional, but the novel uses the German occupation of Denmark, Danish resistance activity and Allied efforts to understand German weapons research as its historical framework. Gerlis builds the thriller around real conditions of surveillance, collaboration and clandestine movement rather than presenting the central mission as a documented operation.
