At the height of Cahokia’s power, thousands live around monumental mounds while traders and warriors connect the city to distant regions. The ruler known as Morning Star is treated as a living embodiment of divine authority, making an attempt on his life a threat not only to one man but to the political and religious order of the city.
Matron Blue Heron must conceal the attack while identifying the conspiracy behind it. Assisted by unlikely allies, she enters a struggle involving clan rivalry, assassins and Powers associated with the Sky and Underworld, knowing that public knowledge of Morning Star’s vulnerability could ignite civil war throughout Cahokia.
