No Wind of Blame

Wally Carter is shot while crossing a narrow bridge, yet the position of the weapon appears to make the killing physically impossible. His household contains a Russian prince, an ambitious stepdaughter, a dissatisfied wife and several people affected by scandal and blackmail.

Inspector Hemingway approaches the apparent impossibility through character as much as mechanics. The case tests whether an ingenious method can conceal a simple motive, and whether the family’s theatrical behaviour is distraction or evidence.
