Mexico Set
After the shock of Berlin Game, Bernard Samson is sent to Mexico City to persuade a vulnerable KGB officer to defect. The target is nervous, the local intelligence contacts are unreliable and London Central is divided over how much Bernard should be told. The operation forces him to work through intermediaries whose loyalties are shaped by money, fear and long-standing personal debts.
Mexico Set broadens the conflict beyond Europe while keeping Bernard’s damaged family life at its centre. Every attempt to control the defection produces another layer of uncertainty, and Bernard begins to see that the Service’s official explanation for recent events may conceal a much larger operation.
