Northern England, AD 1044. Escaping Norman politics, the Wolves sail to Jorvik and encounter an earl suspicious of their intentions. To prove good faith, they accept a task in the Yorkshire Dales, where the Viking warlord Arkil resists regional authority with a compact and experienced force.
The mission places Halfdan among communities shaped by the Danelaw but divided over who may legitimately command them. Pursuit through the dales turns into a contest between leaders who understand the same traditions of war and honour. Bringing Arkil to heel may secure the Wolves a temporary refuge, but it also exposes how little separates outlaw rule from recognised power.
