Highwayman: War’s End

England, 1656. Trouble reaches Samson Lyle at the graveside of his surrogate mother Ursula. A seven-fingered thief called Whisler has stolen a sacred Bible from a band of armed sailors, and their gun captain Marek assumes that the Ironside Highwayman is responsible. Marek takes Ursula’s son hostage and demands the book in exchange for his life, forcing Lyle, Bella and Eustace Grumm into another pursuit across Protectorate England.

The trail leads through thieves, mercenaries and men still carrying the habits of civil war, before Lyle falls into the hands of his old enemy Colonel John Maddocks. The Bible’s value is not simply religious, and neither Marek nor Whisler has told the full truth about its theft. To rescue the hostage, Lyle must survive both a new adversary and the state officer who has pursued him throughout the series, bringing the Highwayman trilogy to its final confrontation.
