Nate Carlton returns from a cattle drive to his South Texas ranch expecting a winter of recovery and work. The Uvalde valley is still rebuilding after the Civil War, but its position near Comanche country leaves it exposed to raids, rumours and renewed frontier violence. When armed Comanche attacks suggest a wider design behind the supply of guns and powder, Carlton is forced to defend his settlement and determine who is using the frontier conflict for their own advantage.
