Behind Enemy Lines

Transferred to the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam, Jackman joins a small group of Australian, New Zealand and American advisers working with ARVN soldiers in Quảng Nam. Patrols around Tam Kỳ and river operations expose the team to divided loyalties, uncertain intelligence and an enemy able to move between villages and jungle. A routine mission escalates into a wider battle in which local commanders and foreign advisers must depend on one another.

The novel shifts from battalion warfare to the more intimate and politically difficult work of military advising. It explores training, language, authority and the limits of outside assistance, while retaining the series’ emphasis on ambush and small-unit action. Jackman’s task is no longer simply to lead his own section but to help another army fight without taking control away from it.
