In early 1967, 5 RAR launches a helicopter-borne assault against Hill 82, a heavily fortified position in Phước Tuy Province. Jackman and his men fight through bunkers, trenches and interlocking fields of fire to seize the height. The victory immediately becomes a defensive crisis when North Vietnamese troops counterattack and the Australians are forced to hold the ground with dwindling ammunition and no easy route of withdrawal.

Battle for Hill 82 is structured as an assault followed by a siege. It concentrates on close-quarters infantry combat, field fortification and the psychological shift from attacker to isolated defender. The hill is treated not merely as an objective on a map but as a confined battlefield on which training, discipline and loyalty determine whether the unit can survive repeated attacks.
