Barbarian and the Throne

Constantinople, AD 388. Videricus, heir to the Greuthungi, is surviving by theft when he encounters Stilicho, a rising Roman officer. Drawn into the army, Videricus must learn Roman discipline without abandoning the loyalties and identity of his own people.

As Theodosius prepares for another imperial civil war, Videricus and Stilicho move towards the campaign that culminates at the Frigidus. The novel places a barbarian recruit inside the military world that will shape the future of both Gothic leaders and the late Roman state.
