A Sacrifice of Pawns

Caribbean, 1762. With the French in Canada defeated, the focus of Sergeant Hugh Mac Kim's war shifts to the West Indies. Still with Kennedy's Rangers, a French privateer captures his ship off the Bahamas, and the French captain murders the crew. From that point on, Mac Kim and the Rangers fight their way through the campaign, with battles on Martinico and Cuba only the backdrop to their personal war with Captain Rene Roberval of Douce Vengeance.

In the third book of the Warrior's Path trilogy, Mac Kim faces hurricanes and meets slaves while hoping to survive and return to the arms of Claudia, his French-Canadian sweetheart. But life does not always go according to plan. The principal historical frame is Seven Years’ War. The novel connects the suppression of Jacobitism with Britain’s global war against France, showing how Highland military service could follow directly from political defeat at home.
