Angus Donald

Angus Donald is a British author of historical adventure fiction born in 1965. Educated at Marlborough College and the University of Edinburgh, he studied social anthropology and undertook fieldwork on magic and witchcraft in Indonesia. Before becoming a full-time novelist, he worked as a fruit-picker in Greece, a waiter in New York and a journalist in Hong Kong, India, Afghanistan and London. His reporting included the war in Afghanistan and the Battle of Tora Bora, experiences that contributed to the direct treatment of danger, violence and survival found in his fiction.

Donald is best known for the Outlaw Chronicles, which reinterpret Robin Hood as a ruthless medieval warlord and follow the minstrel and soldier Alan Dale through the reigns of Richard the Lionheart and King John. He has also written the Holcroft Blood trilogy, centred on a gifted seventeenth-century artillery officer; the Viking-era Fire Born series; and the Mongol Knight novels about an English warrior drawn into the campaigns of Genghis Khan. His books combine battles, political rivalry and outlaw adventure with recurring themes of loyalty, comradeship and survival in violent periods of historical change.
