Andrew Taylor

Andrew Taylor is a British author of historical crime fiction and psychological thrillers. Born in 1951, he studied English at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, before working in a variety of occupations and becoming a full-time writer. His novels are distinguished by careful period research, complex moral questions and an interest in the ways private crimes intersect with political and social upheaval.

Taylor’s major works include the Lydmouth mysteries, the Roth Trilogy and the Marwood and Lovett series, set during the Restoration and beginning with The Ashes of London. He has also written acclaimed standalone novels such as The American Boy, The Anatomy of Ghosts and The Scent of Death. Moving between seventeenth-century London, eighteenth-century Britain and the twentieth century, his fiction combines murder investigations, family secrets and political intrigue with detailed portrayals of communities shaped by class, religion and historical change.
